India's Carbon Capture and Utilization Testbeds Initiative

The Department of Science & Technology (DST) is considering recommendations for five Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU) testbeds in the cement sector across India. These testbeds aim to capture CO₂ emissions from cement manufacturing and convert them into valuable products like synthetic fuels and construction materials. This initiative supports India's goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070 and promotes a circular carbon economy. The testbeds will validate CCU technologies in real industrial settings and are expected to significantly reduce carbon emissions in the cement sector, which accounts for 7-8% of the nation's industrial emissions.
