India's Consumer Price Index Shows Modest Inflation in April 2026

The Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation released its Consumer Price Index (CPI) data for April 2026, revealing a year-on-year inflation rate of 3.48%. This figure is based on the base year 2024 and is marginally up from 3.40% in March 2026. Food inflation, measured by the Consumer Food Price Index (CFPI), stood at 4.20%. The data shows rural areas experiencing slightly higher inflation at 3.74%, compared to 3.16% in urban regions. Among key items, silver jewellery exhibited a significant price rise, while commodities like potatoes and onions saw deflation.
