The Department of Posts in India plans to discontinue several international letter mail services beginning January 2026, following Universal Postal Union (UPU) guidelines. This move aims to improve customer service by adopting modern practices such as enhanced tracking, improved customs compliance, and adherence to security norms. Services like Registered Small Packet and Surface Letter Mail will be replaced by more efficient alternatives that benefit exporters, small businesses, and e-commerce sectors.
