India's Digital Initiatives Empower Rural Communities
On December 12, 2025, the Indian government highlighted its Digital India programme, an initiative launched in July 2015. Aimed at bridging the divide between urban and rural areas, the programme enhances digital infrastructure, delivers government services digitally, and boosts digital literacy among citizens. This initiative includes projects like DigiLocker, UPI, UMANG, and GeM, and has expanded internet access to remote regions through Common Service Centres and BharatNet, with substantial progress in Northeast India. Additionally, the PMGDISHA initiative has improved digital literacy significantly, while collaborations like FutureSkills PRIME address skill gaps, furthering employment opportunities.
