India's Efforts in Preserving Intangible Cultural Heritage
The Ministry of Culture in India is making significant efforts to preserve and promote intangible cultural heritage (ICH) through various initiatives. The Sangeet Natak Akademi maintains a National Inventory of ICH elements in collaboration with states and union territories. The Guru Shishya Parampara Scheme facilitates the training of disciples by experienced artists in various art forms. Zonal Cultural Centres (ZCCs) play a crucial role by organizing events and workshops aimed at revitalizing endangered arts and engaging youth. Additionally, a nomination dossier for Chhath Mahaparv has been submitted to UNESCO, aiming for inclusion in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity for the 2026-27 cycle.
