India's Efforts to Enhance Food Processing Sector
The Indian Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) is implementing several initiatives to strengthen the food processing sector and reduce post-harvest losses. Through schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana (PMKSY), the Prime Minister Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME), and the Production Linked Incentive Scheme for Food Processing Industries (PLISFPI), MoFPI provides financial and technical support to enhance infrastructure and processing capabilities. These efforts aim to boost farmer income, create jobs, cut wastage, and improve processed food exports. By October 2025, key progress includes the sanctioning of over 1600 projects under PMKSY and significant investments through other schemes, reflecting a robust commitment to transforming India's food processing landscape.
