India's Expansion of Doppler Weather Radar Network
India has significantly expanded its Doppler Weather Radar (DWR) network from 14 units in 2014 to 50 operational units by 2026. This expansion under the India Meteorological Department (IMD) covers over 87% of the country, enhancing the forecasting accuracy of cyclones, heavy rains, and thunderstorms. With Mission Mausam, India plans to add 50 more DWRs, further advancing its weather forecasting capabilities, crucial for disaster preparedness and decision-making across various sectors.
