India's Green Footprint: GFRA 2025 Rankings

India has achieved significant milestones in forest conservation, ranking 9th globally in total forest area and 3rd in net annual forest area gain according to the GFRA 2025. The country is also recognized as the 5th largest carbon sink, with forests removing 150 Mt of CO₂ annually. The global forest area is approximately 4.14 billion hectares, covering 32% of the Earth's land area, with India contributing about 2% of this total. The report highlights India's commitment to expanding forest cover and sustainable management practices.
