India's Holistic Approach to a Drug-Free Society
The Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment in India has amplified its efforts for a drug-free society through programmes like the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction and Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan. This aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a 'Nasha Mukt Bharat' or Drug-Free India. The government has significantly expanded treatment and rehabilitation services, reflecting a 294% increase in the number of persons seeking treatment. Moreover, large-scale community mobilization efforts, including the 'Nasha Mukt Bharat Saptah', have engaged millions nationwide. Initiatives like a toll-free helpline and NMBA App 2.0 have been launched to support these efforts, emphasizing the importance of a collective approach involving citizens, institutions, and governments.
