India's Indigenous Lithium Battery Production Initiative

The Government of India has approved the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) battery storage, with an investment of Rs. 18,100 Crore for a capacity of 50 GWh over five years. This initiative aims to boost domestic battery production, reduce import dependency, and lower manufacturing costs. So far, 40 GWh has been allocated to four firms for various applications, including electric vehicles and stationary energy storage, while 10 GWh is designated for grid-scale storage.
