India's Major Reform in Vocational Training: Industry to Lead ITI Upgradation
The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) of India has launched a significant initiative under the PM-SETU scheme to modernize vocational training by inviting industry leaders to take charge of upgrading Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs). With an approved budget of ₹60,000 crore, the scheme aims to address gaps in the current ITI system by implementing an industry-led model where "Anchor Industry Partners" co-manage training infrastructure and curricula development. This shift not only enhances the relevance of vocational education but also aligns it with contemporary job market demands, preparing a skilled workforce tailored to industry needs.
