India's Measures to Boost Textile and Apparel Exports

India's textile industry is a major employment source, significantly contributing to the economy with a workforce predominately made up of women. To enhance global competitiveness, the Indian government has prioritized international trade negotiations, including multiple Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), and has launched initiatives promoting the textile sector and support for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Several schemes and programs like PM Mega Integrated Textile Regions and Apparel (PM MITRA) Parks Scheme and Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme have been rolled out, alongside efforts to resolve trade barriers hampering exports.
