India's National Cooperative Database Enhances Governance and Data Integration
The Ministry of Cooperation in India has developed a comprehensive National Cooperative Database (NCD) to streamline access to information on over 8.4 lakh cooperative societies nationwide, involving approximately 32 crore members across 30 sectors. Launched in 2024, the database is regularly updated by state-appointed nodal officers. It was developed across three phases, capturing extensive data metrics like membership, economic activities, and infrastructure. The ministry has implemented a system for automated data sharing through a standard API. Monthly reviews and training sessions are in place to enhance data accuracy and governance, with a particular focus on digital literacy among cooperative officials. States like Rajasthan have completed API integration, setting a precedent for other regions in India.
