India's Department of Atomic Energy has announced an extensive plan to increase its indigenous nuclear power generation capacity. The current installed capacity of 8780 MW is set to expand significantly in the coming years, with 700 MW PHWR units under construction and ten more reactors in the pre-project phase. The Bhabha Atomic Research Center is also innovating with Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) to meet diverse energy needs, from industrial use to hydrogen generation. The objective is to reach 100 GW capacity by 2047, aiding India's transition to net-zero emissions by 2070.
