India's Nuclear Energy Mission for Viksit Bharat
The Indian Government has launched an ambitious Nuclear Energy mission aiming for a capacity of 100 GW by 2047, contributing to the Net Zero target by 2070. The mission focuses on increasing nuclear power production with minimal carbon emissions, deploying both large and small nuclear power plants, and fostering private sector partnerships. The initiative includes the development of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) and emphasizes safety in nuclear operations. Currently, India has 24 reactors with a total capacity of 8780 MW, with plans to increase this to 100 GW through advanced technologies and new reactor designs.
