India's Nuclear Power Expansion Plans
India's Department of Atomic Energy reports that nuclear power generation, which currently accounts for about 3.1% of the country's total electricity output, is set to enhance significantly with new reactor capacities. The installed capacity of 8.78 GW will potentially rise to 22.38 GW by 2031-32. The country aims for 100 GW by 2047, overcoming past challenges like international embargoes and limited resources. Although foreign direct investment remains prohibited, amendments to the Atomic Energy Act are proposed to allow private sector involvement.
