India's PLI-ACC Scheme Faces Challenges Amid Ongoing Implementation
The Ministry of Heavy Industries is implementing a Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme focused on the "National Programme on Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) Battery Storage," with a funding allocation of ₹18,100 crore for a projected 50 GWh capacity. However, the program has encountered delays due to operational and implementation challenges, such as technology unavailability, skilled manpower shortages, and dependency on imported equipment. Despite awarding 40 GWh capacity to four firms, the initiative faces significant hurdles in reducing import reliance and boosting indigenous manufacturing.
