India's River Interlinking Projects Progress Report

The Government of India has initiated the National Perspective Plan (NPP) for the Inter-Linking of Rivers (ILR) program, aimed at transferring water from surplus to deficit regions. As of July 2025, 30 ILR projects have been identified, with the Ken-Betwa Link Project being the first to enter implementation. Reports indicate significant progress in project documentation, with various reports completed for the majority of projects. The KBLP has faced minimal protest and involves the felling of trees in Madhya Pradesh, affecting thousands of families. The government has approved a special rehabilitation package for affected families.
