Various Indian institutes are monitoring these changes, revealing a cumulative mass loss of -26 meters since 1975. The government has established a national strategy for glacier conservation, including the formation of a Steering Committee and a Centre for Cryosphere and Climate Change Studies. A Standard Operating Procedure for managing Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs) has also been developed to address the impacts of climate change on water resources and ecosystems.
