India's Water and Sanitation Initiatives in 2025

As of December 2025, India's Ministry of Jal Shakti has reported significant progress in improving water supply and sanitation across the country. The Jal Jeevan Mission, launched in 2019, aims to provide potable water to rural households, with 81% of them now having access to tap water. Similarly, the Swachh Bharat Mission, focused on sanitation, has achieved considerable milestones with the construction of over 11.99 crores of individual household latrines. Urban areas benefit from projects under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) focusing on enhancing water infrastructure, while phase 2 of both Swachh Bharat Mission initiatives continue to support sanitation goals. Significant funding has been allocated to these projects, with technological interventions being explored to further improve water and sanitation delivery throughout India.
