The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has launched the Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana (AVYAY) to address the needs of the increasing elderly population in India, projected to rise from 10 crores in 2011 to 23 crores by 2036. The scheme provides financial support for Senior Citizen Homes and aims to ensure welfare through shelter, nutrition, and healthcare. Model Guidelines for Retirement Homes have been established to protect the rights of senior citizens, and the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016, applies to these homes to ensure transparency and accountability in the real estate sector.
