Insurance Support for Marine Fishermen in India

The Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying is implementing the 'Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana' (PMMSY) to promote sustainable fisheries development and provide social security to fishermen. The scheme, with an investment of Rs.20,050 crore, offers group accidental insurance coverage for marine and inland fishermen, with the premium shared between the Centre and State. Coverage includes Rs.5,00,000 for death or total disability, Rs.2,50,000 for partial disability, and Rs.25,000 for hospitalization. Over the last three years, Rs.54.03 crores have been released for 103.73 lakh fishers.
