Jal Jeevan Mission Achieves Major Milestone in Tamil Nadu
The Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) launched by the Indian government aims to provide tap water connections to all rural households. In Tamil Nadu, which faced challenges such as limited groundwater sources and COVID-19 disruptions, the mission has made significant progress. Since 2019, the state has increased tap water connections from 17.37% to 89.36% of rural households. Efforts have included increased funding, high-level reviews, and community engagement initiatives under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan. As of November 2025, over 111.93 lakh households in Tamil Nadu now have access to tap water, signaling a crucial development in rural water accessibility.
