Jal Jeevan Mission Achieves Major Progress in Rural Water Supply

The Jal Jeevan Mission, launched in 2019, aims to provide tap water supply to every rural household in India. As of December 2025, more than 81.37% of rural households now have access to tap water, up from just 16.7% at the mission's start. The project's budget exceeds Rs. 3.60 lakh crore, with significant progress reported in state-wise completion rates. An extension of the mission until December 2028 has been announced, emphasizing improved infrastructure and maintenance for sustainability.
