Jal Jeevan Mission: Empowering Rural Water Supply Management

The Government of India, in partnership with states, has been implementing the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) since August 2019 to provide potable water to every rural household through functional tap connections. The program is decentralized and community-managed, empowering local bodies like Gram Panchayats to manage water supply systems. The Nal Jal Mitra Programme (NJMP) trains local individuals, especially women, to maintain water supply infrastructure. Additionally, states can allocate funds for water quality monitoring, with over 2,775 testing laboratories established and more than 24.80 lakh women trained in water quality testing.
