Jal Jeevan Mission Extended Until 2028 with Increased Funding

The Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), originally conceptualized in 2019 to provide tap water connections to rural households across India, has received approval for an extension until 2028. This announcement was made following a budget speech by the Finance Minister for the year 2025-26, extending the initiative to ensure continued progress and meet the growing aspirations of rural communities. Initially structured with an estimated cost of Rs. 3.60 lakh Crore, with Rs. 2.08 lakh Crore as the Central share, almost the entire Central allocation has been utilized. The continuation aims to further the expansion of the 'Har Ghar Nal Se Jal' under the JJM program with enhanced budgetary support, as noted by the Minister of State for Jal Shakti, Shri V. Somanna, during the Lok Sabha session.
