Jal Jeevan Mission Extends Water Supply to Over 81% of Rural Households
Since August 2019, the Government of India, in collaboration with State governments, has been executing the Jal Jeevan Mission to ensure potable water access to every rural household. Originally, only 16.72% of households had access to tap water; now, over 81% have connections due to the initiative. The mission, which had a budget of Rs. 3.60 lakh crore, has been extended to December 2028 with an enhanced outlay to address continuing challenges. Recent assessments show high functionality rates for newly installed connections.
