Jal Jeevan Mission in Assam Extended Till 2028

The Government of India has been implementing the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) since August 2019, aimed at providing potable water through tap connections to every rural household in states including Assam. As of the latest update, 81.65% of rural households in Assam have received these connections, indicating significant progress towards universal coverage. Originally funded with a central outlay of ₹2,08,652 Crore extending till March 2024, the mission has been extended to December 2028 to continue efforts and maintain financial support. This extension was necessary due to the substantial progress and ongoing work in water supply schemes, with the Finance Minister announcing an enhanced budget allocation for 2025-26.
