Jal Jeevan Mission Provides Tap Water to 81% of Rural Households
The Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) initiated in August 2019 by the Government of India in collaboration with states aims to deliver tap water to every rural household. At its launch, only 17% of rural households had tap water access. As of December 2025, 81.42% of rural households (15.76 crore out of 19.36 crore) have received tap water connections. The central government allocated ₹2,08,652 crore towards this mission, nearly fully utilized to support state implementation efforts. The mission also focuses on water sustainability and regulation policies to ensure long-term water availability.
