Launch of Bharat Forecast System by India Meteorological Department
The India Meteorological Department adopted the Bharat Forecast System (BharatFS) on May 26, 2025, aimed at enhancing extreme weather prediction accuracy at the panchayat cluster level. The system operates at a 6 km resolution, significantly improving rainfall prediction accuracy by 30% compared to its predecessor. Developed over five years and rigorously tested, BharatFS utilizes a new TCo grid for better local forecasts, focusing on short- and medium-range predictions.
