On World No Tobacco Day 2026, Smt. Punya Salila Srivastava, Union Health Secretary, introduced the pilot Tobacco-Free Educational Institutions (ToFEI) Application, a digital tool to enhance tobacco-free practices in Indian schools and colleges, as part of the National Tobacco Control Programme. The Ministry also issued a Standard Operating Procedure for sampling tobacco products, reinforcing surveillance and compliance efforts against tobacco use.
