Maintenance and Challenges Surrounding India's Cultural Heritage Monuments
The Archaeological Survey of India oversees 3,686 protected monuments across India, addressing encroachments and illegal construction through legal enforcement. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs launched the HRIDAY Scheme in 2015 to preserve heritage cities' unique character, which concluded in 2019. Conservation of monuments by ASI is ongoing, subject to funding and national policy.
