Major Progress in Jal Jeevan Mission and Atal Bhujal Yojana

The Jal Jeevan Mission, implemented by the Government of India in collaboration with states since August 2019, aims to provide assured tap water to all rural households. As of March 2026, 81.71% of rural households have received tap water connections, a significant increase from 16.7% at the mission's inception. Moreover, 11 states and union territories have achieved full coverage. The Atal Bhujal Yojana, an initiative targeting groundwater management, has successfully concluded across seven states, improving groundwater levels and community awareness. This project served as a pilot to demonstrate sustainable water management through community participation and infrastructure development, managed by Quality Council of India. The achievements of both programs were discussed in the Lok Sabha by the Minister of State for Jal Shakti, Shri V. Somanna.
