Mapping of Landslide Prone Areas in India
The Geological Survey of India (GSI) has completed landslide susceptibility mapping for hilly and mountainous regions under the National Landslide Susceptibility Mapping (NLSM) programme, covering 19 states and union territories. The maps classify areas into high, moderate, and low susceptibility zones, aiding in regional land-use planning. GSI is also developing a Regional Landslide Forecasting System and has initiated a Landslide Early Warning System for timely alerts. The government provides financial support to high-risk states through various disaster management programs.
