Measures to Prevent Elephant Deaths from Train Collisions

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change reported 81 elephant casualties due to train collisions from 2019-2024. In collaboration with the Ministry of Railways, measures such as speed restrictions, seismic sensor projects, and construction of underpasses have been implemented. A report has identified 77 railway stretches for targeted mitigation efforts. Capacity-building workshops for railway officials were also conducted to enhance awareness on elephant conservation.
