Ministry Fast-Tracks Waste Site Remediation with DRAP Initiative

The Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs has identified 2,488 dumpsites holding 25 crore metric tonnes of legacy waste for remediation under the Dumpsite Remediation Acceleration Programme (DRAP). The initiative aims to remediate 214 major dumpsites by September 2026, which account for most remaining legacy waste, and to reclaim land for productive use. The Ministry is providing ₹4,206 crore in central financial assistance to support these efforts and additional aid based on city-specific plans. The progress is monitored through an IT module, and cities are encouraged to collaborate with various partners for effective implementation.
