Ministry of Agriculture Promotes Crop Diversification Program
The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare continues to advance the Crop Diversification Programme (CDP) under the Pradhan Mantri- Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (PM-RKVY) to reduce reliance on water-intensive crops in states such as Haryana, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh. Since 2013, the initiative has aimed to shift cultivation from paddy to alternative crops like pulses and oilseeds, and from 2015 onwards, it has been expanded to include replacing tobacco crops in states like Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat. The government supports this through various schemes to sustain agricultural productivity and improve soil health.
