The Ministry of Coal has implemented various measures to reduce coal import dependency in India, including increasing the Annual Contracted Quantity (ACQ), revising coking coal linkage tenures, and ensuring full Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) requirements are met by domestic coal companies. The government aims to enhance domestic coal production through legislative amendments, a single-window clearance system, and modern technologies in mining. The target is to achieve 1.5 billion tonnes of domestic coal production by FY 2029-30, significantly reducing imports and saving foreign exchange.
