Ministry of Coal's Mission Coking Coal Progress

The Ministry of Coal launched 'Mission Coking Coal' in August 2021 to boost domestic coking coal production and reduce imports, especially for the steel sector. Production increased from 44.79 MT in FY21 to 66.47 MT in FY25. Initiatives include offering discontinued mines for private revenue sharing, commissioning new washeries, and revising auction policies to enhance domestic consumption. Current projects include several new washeries in Jharkhand and West Bengal, with a total capacity of 21.5 MTPA planned by FY30.
