Ministry of Home Affairs Launches Digital Census 2027

The Ministry of Home Affairs announced that the Census 2027 will be conducted in two phases—Houselisting and Housing Census, followed by Population Enumeration. Digital tools including Mobile Apps, Census Management and Monitoring Portal, and a Self Enumeration Portal have been introduced for more efficient data collection. While offline data collection remains an option, paper-based data will be digitized at the charge level. Implementation of stringent security measures ensures data safety throughout the collection process. Enumerators will conduct house-to-house visits, with self-enumeration available to prevent exclusion. These updates were confirmed by Minister of State Shri Nityanand Rai in a Rajya Sabha session.
