Ministry of Jal Shakti Reviews Groundwater Conservation Efforts

The Ministry of Jal Shakti reviewed the progress of the Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari 2.0 initiative in 124 over-exploited and critical groundwater districts. The initiative aims to construct one crore artificial recharge and storage structures by May 2026 to improve long-term water security and sustainability. Additionally, 65% of MGNREGA funds in these districts are allocated for water-related projects, while 15 new conservation activities have been approved. Three districts - Banaskantha, Salem, and Barmer - showcased best practices demonstrating effective implementation.
