Ministry of Mines Releases State Mining Readiness Index and Rankings

The Ministry of Mines has unveiled the State Mining Readiness Index (SMRI) and State rankings, aimed at promoting mining sector reforms at the state level. This initiative aligns with the Union Budget 2025-26 announcement. The index evaluates states based on auction performance, early mine operationalization, exploration efforts, and sustainable mining practices for non-coal minerals. States are categorized by mineral endowment, with Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Gujarat leading in Category A, while Goa, Uttar Pradesh, and Assam top Category B, and Punjab, Uttarakhand, and Tripura excel in Category C.
