Ministry of Tourism Implements Reforms for Enhanced Safety and Efficiency
The Ministry of Tourism in India has implemented significant reforms to boost transparency and service delivery, including an online approval system for accommodation and tourism services via the NIDHI+ portal. To enhance tourist safety, a 24/7 helpline is available in 12 languages, and several states have deployed tourist police units. Further safeguards include the ‘Safe Tourism Destinations for Women’ initiative under the Nirbhaya fund. Financial reforms were also introduced with a simplified GST system, reducing costs for the tourism sector. Additionally, the e-Visa scheme now permits entry from 32 airports and more, supporting the 20.57 million international arrivals recorded in 2024.
