Ministry of Tourism Reports Growth in International Tourist Arrivals to India
The Ministry of Tourism, led by Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, presented a report on the growth of international tourist arrivals (ITAs) in India, which showed significant recovery post-pandemic. From a low of 63.37 lakh ITAs in 2020, arrivals increased to 205.69 lakh in 2024. The data highlights India's recovery efforts supported by initiatives like the Overseas Promotions and Publicity scheme, Smart Cities Mission, and Swachh Bharat Mission. To enhance tourist safety, the Ministry collaborates with State/UT governments to provide safety mechanisms including a 24x7 multilingual helpline and specialized tourist police. Budget allocations for tourism promotions were also reviewed, with future cuts noted for the Overseas Promotions scheme as it undergoes assessment.
