Modernization of Police Forces Under SMART Policing Initiative

The Ministry of Home Affairs is assisting States and Union Territories in modernizing their police forces through the Assistance to States & UTs for Modernization of Police (ASUMP) scheme. This initiative aims to enhance police infrastructure with advanced technology and equipment. The Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) has been implemented to facilitate information sharing across 17,712 police stations, housing over 35.24 crore crime records. The SMART Policing concept addresses various challenges, including cybercrime and drug de-addiction, with annual action plans formulated by State/UT Governments for effective policing.
