Modernization of Ports in India

The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways has announced the Maritime India Vision 2030, aiming to transform the Chennai-Kamarajar-Cuddalore cluster into a Mega Port by 2047, with a cargo handling capacity of over 300 million tonnes per annum. Under the Sagarmala Programme, 234 projects worth Rs. 2,91,279Cr. are being implemented, with 104 completed and 55 ongoing. Key initiatives include modernizing Chennai, Ennore, and Tuticorin ports, along with enhancing infrastructure connectivity to position Tamil Nadu as a major maritime hub in Asia.
