Modi Government's ₹5,000-Crore Investment in Northeast Waterways

The Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, announced a ₹5,000 crore investment to enhance the maritime sector in Northeast India. Key initiatives include training 50,000 youth in maritime skills, developing 85 community jetties, and ensuring year-round navigability with 10 dredgers. The Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project is set to be operational by 2027, enhancing connectivity with Myanmar. Additional projects include new cargo terminals, tourism jetties, and Water Metro projects in Guwahati, Tezpur, and Dibrugarh, aimed at boosting regional trade and tourism.
