MoFPI Allocates Rs. 793 Crore to Boost India's Millet-Based Food Industry

The Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) in India has approved incentives totaling Rs. 793.27 crores under the Production Linked Incentive Scheme for Millet-Based Products (PLISMBP) to support the manufacturing and sale of millet-based food products. This funding is part of broader sector schemes, including Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana and PM Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises Scheme, aimed at expanding infrastructure and fostering entrepreneurship in the food processing sector. The initiatives are expected to enhance the use of millets and their export, despite no direct study on farmer income impact. The schemes also support branding, marketing, and packaging standardization within the micro food processing units.
