MoFPI Promotes Green Technologies in Food Processing Sector

Share

The Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) is advocating the use of renewable energy and eco-friendly innovations in the food processing sector through various initiatives and schemes. Under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana (PMKSY), MoFPI supports the integration of renewable energy technologies like solar, bio-mass, and wind in food processing units, with a financial aid cap of ₹35 lakh per project. These initiatives also comply with environmental standards for cold chain infrastructure to use energy-efficient and low-global warming potential refrigerants. The ministry's efforts include the development of biodegradable packaging through institutes like NIFTEM, fostering sustainable practices across the industry. MoFPI encourages startups and MSMEs with subsidies and incentives under various schemes such as the Production Linked Incentive Scheme for Food Processing Industry (PLISFPI) and the PM Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) scheme, thereby creating off-farm employment opportunities and boosting farmers' income.
