MoHUA Unveils PMAY-U 2.0 to Bolster Urban Housing
The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has extended the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAY-U) initiative until the end of 2025 to aid states and UTs in providing housing to eligible beneficiaries. The scheme, revamped as PMAY-U 2.0 starting September 2024, aims to support 1 crore additional beneficiaries through its four key verticals: Beneficiary Led Construction, Affordable Housing in Partnership, Interest Subsidy Scheme, and Affordable Rental Housing. As of late November 2025, the scheme has sanctioned over 122 lakh houses. In addition to housing, the initiative promotes transparency in real estate and supports Transit Oriented Development to reduce urban congestion and pollution.
